The CHP’s H-32 helicopter located the injured man in the steep and rugged terrain after a good Samaritan used a GPS app on her cellphone to relay the coordinates where the incident occurred to rescuers, Andrews said.

The trail was in steep and rugged terrain, and the H-32 helicopter landed at the San Rafael Fire Department’s command post in a nearby field, Andrews said.

The helicopter configured with a hoist flew a fire department paramedic to the site of the injured mountain biker, who was then flown to an ambulance at the field. The injured man was then taken to a hospital, Andrews said.
