County Hosting Workshops on the Risks of Sea-Level Rise in Marin

The following is a news release from the County of Marin:

The ocean along Marin County’s coast has risen eight inches since record keeping began, and the best science available says it will rise substantially more in coming years.

The C-SMART project, short for Collaboration: Sea-level Marin Adaptation Response Team, is working to bring communities together to better understand the nature of the challenge and examine possible responses.

The second set of public meetings hosted by C-SMART and the Marin County Community Development Agency is taking place in late October. Here is the schedule:

• Tuesday, October 28, 6-8 p.m.
  Inverness Yacht Club
  12850 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Inverness

• Wednesday, October 29, 6-8 p.m.
  Stinson Beach Community Center
  32 Belvedere Ave., Stinson Beach

• Thursday, October 30, 6-8 p.m.
  Tomales Town Hall
  27150 Highway One, Tomales

Participants will collaborate on articulating the values, resources and assets that could be vulnerable to rising seas. To help inspire this discussion, attendees are invited to bring photos of the things that make Marin’s coast a special place.

Maps of potential future scenarios will be displayed to give participants the opportunity to pinpoint and map important features of their communities that could be exposed to increased flooding and inundation as storms increase in frequency and intensity and ocean levels rise as a result of climate change.
