Barnes & Noble Corte Madera today announced its exciting lineup of can’t-miss events for the second week of the Get Pop-Cultured with Barnes & Noble celebration. On Wednesday, July 8, customers are invited to Barnes & Noble Corte Madera for a special buy two get the third free offer on all DC Comics graphic novels that runs through Sunday, July 12. The week continues with the release of the highly anticipated limited-edition Comic Convention Collectibles on Thursday, July 9, giving customers the chance to pick up exclusive collectibles from Diamond Select Toys, Funko, Titans and more.

Pop culture fans will love this week’s Throwback Thursday, celebrating the 1960s with activities including a 1960s-style Barrel of Monkeys event, as well as special content giveaways including an exclusive 16-page mini-edition of Remind magazine. Throwback Thursday 1960s will also celebrate the unique impact that Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird had on that decade, leading into an exciting Harper Lee celebration, July 13 and 14. Barnes & Noble Corte Madera will read Harper Lee’s classic To Kill a Mockingbird from start to finish in a special Read-A-Thon event on Monday, July 13, the eve of the highly anticipated release of Go Set a Watchman. And on Tuesday, July 14, for the release of Go Set a Watchman, Barnes & Noble Corte Madera will open at 7am so customers can get their copy first, and between 7am and 10am customers will get a free tall cup of hot coffee with the purchase of Go Set a Watchman.

DC Comics Days – Wednesday, July 8, through Sunday, July 12

DC Comics Days celebrates the work of comic book giant DC Comics, creator of a pantheon of massively popular characters including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash, as well as superhero teams the Justice League, the Watchmen and the Teen Titans. Starting Wednesday, July 8, customers are invited to Barnes & Noble Corte Madera for an incredible special offer of buy two get the third free on all DC Comics graphic novels through Sunday, July 12. They can also get a free Young Gotham comic collection and poster, while supplies last.

There will be other exciting giveaways, while supplies last, during DC Comics Days, including a DC Entertainment™ Essential Graphic Novels and Chronology 2015, DC Comics Gotham Academy posters and a DC Comics Young Gotham comic sampler for the new Gotham Academy series. Comic Convention Collectibles – Thursday, July 9, through Sunday, July 12

One of the most anticipated releases of the year, the launch of the Comic Convention Collectibles at Barnes & Noble Corte Madera on July 9 is a can’t-miss moment for collectors and pop culture fans. Starting July 9 (while supplies last), customers can pick up shared exclusive collectibles from Diamond Select Toys, Funko, Titans and more. Many are being sold exclusively at Barnes & Noble, and customers should get to Barnes & Noble Corte Madera early on July 9 as many of these collectibles will sell out fast!

Throwback Thursday 1960s – Thursday, July 9

New to Get Pop-Cultured this year, and the cornerstone of the Get Pop-Cultured campaign, customers are invited to Barnes & Noble Corte Madera every Thursday in July for a nostalgic journey through the most iconic moments in pop culture from the 1950s through the 1990s. This week it’s the 1960s and all stores nationwide will be hosting fun themed activities including a special 1960s-style Barrel of Monkeys event (4 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Corte Madera), in which the game will do its best to live up to the promise of being “More fun than a barrel of monkeys.”

To round out the fun, there will also be Deals of the Decade, special offers and giveaways for Throwback Thursday 1960s including a Barnes & Noble exclusive original cover edition of the bestselling Slaughterhouse-Five, by Kurt Vonnegutand A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L’Engle, the bestselling science fantasy story for young readers, both for 50% off from July 9 through July 12. Slaughterhouse-Five will also be available as a NOOK Book® at an incredible value of only $1.99, for a limited time only. Also featured are the vinyl albums Abbey Road by the Beatles and Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys available for sale; and special candy treats from the time period are available for purchase.

And of course, no 1960s celebration would be complete without highlighting the impact that Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird had on popular culture. Customers can visit Barnes & Noble Corte Madera to experience a specially crafted Throwback Thursday display wall that will feature fun facts, images, products and more from the decade, including information about Harper Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird, leading into the Harper Lee Celebration July 13 and 14. The display wall is the perfect opportunity for customers to take pictures to share on social media, using the hashtags #TBT and #GetPopCultured.

Harper Lee Celebration – Monday, July 13, through Tuesday, July 14

On Monday, July 13, Barnes & Noble Corte Madera will read Harper Lee’s classic To Kill a Mockingbird from start to finish. The Read-A-Thon will feature a variety of special guest readers, including local authors and celebrities in select stores. Highlights include Wally Lamb and Leslie Uggams in conversation with Bill Goldstein at our Union Square store in New York City and Barnes & Noble Discover author Cynthia Bond, Joely Fisher, Annabelle Gurwitch and Attica Locke in conversation with Amy Bradley at our Grove store in Los Angeles. Barnes & Noble Corte Madera will feature local authors, including Joan Ryan, Angela Pneuman, Edmund Addeo, Denise Williams, David Johnson, Jacqueline Annette Sue, Karen Lynch, and Charles Souby. On July 14, Harper Lee’s highly anticipated new novel, Go Set a Watchman, goes on sale.
