Fisher House II-Travis AFB "Raise the Roof" 2014 Fundraiser

On Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 17,
supporters of military veterans, their families and friends in Marin County and
throughout the San Francisco Bay Area plan to raise funds for a nonprofit
foundation that provides free temporary housing for veterans and their
families while a loved one is receiving medical treatment.

“Raising the Roof” Fundraiser at St. Patrick’s
Parish Center in Larkspur will be a celebration for the Travis
Air Force Base Fisher House II
in Fairfield, one of a nationwide network of comfort homes
located near major military bases and Veterans Administration medical centers. Fisher
Houses
have up to 21 suites, with private
bedrooms and baths plus common kitchens, laundry facilities, a warm dining room
and an inviting living room.

Through supportive events such as “Raising the Roof,” the Fisher House Foundation
ensures that there is never a lodging fee. Since its inception, the program has
saved an estimated $200 million in out-of-pocket lodging and transportation
costs for veterans and their families. Through its Hero Miles program, more
than 45,000 airline tickets (worth nearly $60 million) have been provided to
service members and their families. Also, more than $11 million has been raised
for scholarship awards for approximately 7,000 students.
