Fully Recovered Badger Set to be Released Back Into Wild

A badger that has spent nearly two months at an animal hospital will be released back into the wild this weekend, WildCare Bay Area announced.

The animal, which first arrived at the San Rafael-based rehabilitation center and hospital for wildlife on June 6 with multiple afflictions, has since made a full recovery, according to WildCare Officials.

The juvenile female badger will be released Sunday at the 300-acre Erickson family ranch and farm in Valley Ford at 5 p.m., WildCare officials said.

Badger sightings are unusual and rare in Marin County, according to WildCare. Since 2003, WildCare has only admitted seven badgers.

The animal was found near Overland Drive in Bolinas, near the body of its dead mother, semi-conscious and lethargic, WildCare officials said.WildCare officials later concluded the animal was suffering from internal bleeding, although they couldn’t determine what caused the bleeding, according to WildCare.

The hospital’s medical staff was able to successfully nurse the badger back to health by giving her subcutaneous fluids, oxygen and easily digestible food through a feeding tube, WildCare officials said.
