The Hannah Project: Bookfair Fundraiser at B&N!

Nov.29-Dec.7 at Barnes & Noble: Help The Hannah Project support the education of low-income students with your Holiday Shopping!

Support The Hannah Project at Barnes & Noble in Corte Madera, CA. In an effort to raise funds for their program, which seeks to boost the academic performance and college graduation rates of low-income students in Marin County, The Hannah Project is working together with Barnes & Noble Booksellers by hosting a Bookfair at the Corte Madera store.

From Saturday, November 29 to Sunday, December 7, 2014, Barnes & Noble will contribute a percentage of every sale made with a special Bookfair voucher to The Hannah Project. Vouchers will be available online at the Hannah Project website www.thehannahproject.org and in hard copy at their offices in Marin City. You can also shop in support of The Hannah Project by shopping online at www.bn.com/bookfairs from November 29 to December 7, 2014 and include the Bookfair voucher (ID #11448255) in the coupon space on the payment page during checkout.

On Saturday, November 29th at 2pm, photographer David Johnson will share A Dream Begun So Long Ago: The Story of David Johnson, Ansel Adams’ First African American Student. Johnson documented the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 60s, and focused his work on the socially relevant issues facing urban communities, especially the African American community of the Fillmore District of San Francisco. His name is etched on the concrete at the Fillmore Plaza.

On Wednesday, December 3rd at 6pm, local author Jacqueline Annette Sue will present from her book Cornbread and Dim Sum, for which she was honored as San Francisco Library Literary Laureate in 2010. Her other works include Morning Glories in a Dead Tree, Black Seeds in the Blue Grass, Mother-in-laws in VietNam, and A Dream Begun So Long Ago. She holds a masters degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary and was the first African American woman (and only the second woman) Postmaster of a first-class post office in Marin County.

Barnes & Noble Corte Madera will also be hosting several events that will appeal to children and families during the week of the bookfair. Saturday, November 29th at 11am: The Elf on the Shelf Storytime & Adoption Event. Monday, December 1st at 4pm: Dr. Seuss’s Grinch Day Storytime (Grow Your Heart 3 Sizes!). Friday, December 5th at 7pm: The Polar Express Storytime. All events held at Barnes & Noble are free and open to the public.
