
MARIN COUNTY, CA -- A large long-period swell is expected to create hazardous conditions on area beaches Nov. 3. Some of the impacts can include:
* Sneaker Waves:
- Large wave sets possible after long periods of small waves
- Large waves may catch people unaware and pull them into the cold, turbulent ocean.
- Lulls in large wave activity may last up to 30 minutes.
- Remain farther back from the water's edge and off of rocks and jetties.
* Rip Currents:

- Long period energetic swell will bring enhanced rip current activity to coastal waters.
- Beach visitors are encouraged to remain away from and out of the water during this swell event.
* Coastal Erosion:
- Long period energetic swell is expected to impact coastal bluffs and dunes.
- Continued sediment transport is likely.
- People or organizations with coastal concerns are encouraged to prepare for this swell event ahead of time.
* Large Surf:

- Surf heights of 22 to 27 feet with larger sets possible.
- Beach visitors are encouraged to remain away from and out of the water during the swell.
