Marin Police Arrest San Anselmo Parents for Resisting Adult Son’s Arrest

Thomas Pope Sr. and Gardner Pope "both verbally obstructed and delayed officers from executing the arrest warrant," officials said.

SAN ANSELMO, CA – The Central Marin Police Authority recently arrested a San Anselmo mother and father after they tried to stop officers from arresting their adult son.

In a press release from the Central Marin Police Authority, officials said officers on Dec. 22 attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Thomas Pope Jr., a 22-year-old resident of San Anselmo, at the Floribel Avenue home he shares with his parents. The felony no-bail arrest warrant, which was for possession of stolen property, was issued by a Marin County Superior Court Judge.

When officers arrived at the home, however, Pope’s parents, Thomas Pope Sr. and Gardner Pope, “both verbally obstructed and delayed officers from executing the arrest warrant,” officials said.

The Central Marin Police Authority issued a press release on Wednesday regarding the arrests, in response to social media comments about the incident.

“The CMPA would like to provide our citizens with factual details of this event,” officials said in a statement.

Officials said officers on scene activated their body-worn cameras. Footage from the body cameras, police said, will be forwarded to the Marin County District Attorney Office for information.
