MarinArts.org Named State-Local Partner with California Arts Council

Designation will allow MarinArts.org to apply for a specific grant, re-establishing crucial local arts funding.

The following was submitted for publication on behalf of MarinArts.org:

In the wake of the closure of the Marin Arts Council in early 2012, a new organization, MarinArts.org, has emerged to support arts and cultural activities in Marin County.

On July 29, the Marin County Board of Supervisors designated MarinArts.org as Marin’s official State-Local Partner with the California Arts Council. This designation will allow MarinArts.org to apply for a grant through the California Arts Council’s State Local Partner Program, re-establishing crucial arts funding that ceased when the Marin Arts Council officially dissolved.

MarinArts.org has spent the last two years conducting focus groups, research and community convenings to assess the needs of Marin’s arts communities. What resulted is their first project to create and launch Marin’s first comprehensive online arts & cultural calendar. The calendar is a natural first step and supports all of MarinArts.org’s long term goals:

  • Foster communication and networking between existing arts organizations, artists, cultural institutions and arts related businesses in Marin.
  • Inform residents and visitors about the outstanding arts activities and programs that are already happening here in Marin.
  • Advocate for all of the arts in Marin.

Marin County Supervisor Steve Kinsey said, “I’m pleased to support the designation of MarinArts.org as Marin’s State Local Partner to the California Arts Council. The arts in Marin contribute to our community, our economy, our way of life and our culture.”

The county designation as a State Local Partner is a crucial step in obtaining partial funding to continue MarinArts.org’s important work for the arts.

In an early act of arts advocacy, MarinArts.org was the main proponent for the MarinCounty Board of Supervisors to officially proclaim October as National Arts and Humanities Month in Marin.

MarinArts.org is currently seeking new members for its Board of Directors. If you’re interested in joining the Board, send a letter of interest and resume to info@marinarts.org or MarinArts.org, 2800 Northgate Drive, Suite 250, San Rafael CA 94903.
