WOODACRE, CA – Firefighters will be conducting planned burns this week along Highway 1 in Marin County's Olema Valley.

Fire management staff at Point Reyes National Seashore, along with the Marin County Fire Department and Bolinas Fire Protection District, tentatively scheduled the prescribed burns between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday but may reschedule depending on weather conditions.

A total of 205 acres will be burned on the east side of Highway 1 roughly seven miles south of Olema and four miles north of Bolinas. Smoke may impact the Olema Valley, Stinson Beach and the San Geronimo Valley.

Point Reyes National Seashore is conducting the prescribed burns to create a strategic fuel break along the Highway 1 corridor where a wildfire will be easier to control, according to the county. Planned burns also help reduce the invasive French broom and maintain open grasslands.

The McCurdy Trail will be closed for one to two days during active ignitions, county officials said. No road closures are anticipated, however, there may be short traffic delays along Highway 1 while the burns take place.
