San Anselmo Show to Help Cancer Victim

The proceeds will go to a bone marrow transplant fund

On October 25, Marin’s top singers Dani Innocenti-Beem, Julie Ekoue-Totou and Kayla Gold among others, will join award-winning San Rafael-based tap dancer Sherry Hines at a fundraising show, “B4B” in honor of Marin dance teacher, choreographer and singer Blanca Florida, who is currently fighting leukemia. The fundraising event will benefit the Southwest Bone Marrow Transplant Fund, through HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. B4B takes place on Saturday, October 25, 8PM at The Playhouse, 27 Kensington Road, San Anselmo.

Blanca, a longtime Marin resident has taught for many years throughout the county, including directing at the Novato Theatre Company, Yes Theatre and the Marin Theatre Company, as well as teaching jazz at Dance with Sherry Studio.

Produced by Dance with Sherry Studio Founder Sherry Hines, and directed by notable actor Buzz Halsing, B4B features live performances by professional Marin-based singers and dancers, including Sandi Weldon Dancers (ballroom and hip hop). The event highlights follow an eerie entertainment-type theme, including a Spooky Silent Auction, and a Creepy Costume Contest.

“Blanca is known to many families and the dance and entertainment community in Marin,” says Sherry Hines. “B4B aims to raise awareness of the Southwest Bone Marrow Transplant Fund, while helping Blanca fund the many challenges she now faces to cover her out of pocket costs associated with a life-saving bone marrow transplant. She no longer can continue to work. The search to find a matching donor currently continues.”

Throughout her career, Blanca has been known to many Marin public schools for her work as a dance/music/drama educator. She was a dance/music/drama specialist at Dixie School; she directed and/or choreographed shows for Stapleton School of the Performing Arts. She has also taught after-school programs for Marin Theatre Company at Hamilton Elementary School, Edna Maguire Elementary School, and Park School among others.
