Sheriff's Office IDs Victim in Fatal Mother's Day Shooting

Jermaine Kennedy, 34, was shot Sunday when he was in town to attend a memorial for a friend who was gunned down two weeks ago.

A man fatally shot in unincorporated Marin City early Sunday morning has been identified Tuesday by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office as 34-year-old Jermaine Kennedy.

Kennedy, who had ties to Vallejo and Richmond, was injured in a shooting reported at 1:06 a.m. Sunday in the vicinity of an apartment at 79 Cole Drive, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies found him with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. He was taken to Marin General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

Kennedy had been in the area for a memorial service for a family friend who was killed in a shooting in the Sacramento area two weeks ago, sheriff’s Lt. Doug Pittman said.

No arrests had been made in the case as of this morning. Anyone with information about the homicide is asked is asked to call the sheriff’s investigations unit at (415) 473-7265.
