Annual fundraiser raises money for training teens preparing for military service and care packages for deployed troops.

There’s a small locally owned gym in San Rafael that is covered in camouflage netting and patriotic signs. It’s on Mary Street, about a block behind Whole Foods and a block west of San Rafael High. You can’t miss it.
That’s the House of Steel, a gym operated with military precision by Marine Corps Lt. Gregory Allen. His clients are often ex-military, law enforcement, other public safety workers and people who thrive on discipline. It’s also where young recruits from Marin who prepare to head off to boot camp and, in some cases, for deployment in a branch of the armed forces.
