Volunteer of the Year Award

Congratulations to Judy Coy, who received the Town’s first-ever Volunteer of the Year award on Sunday, June 30, at the Town’s Volunteer Ice Cream Social volunteer recognition event.

Judy is a long-time member of the Town’s Historical Commission and has served as its chair for several terms.  She has an infectious passion for history and has instituted various historical walks in town, including the annual Brookside second grade tours.  She spends innumerable hours creating museum exhibits and maintaining the Historical Museum website.  This year she authored an Arcadia book on the pictorial history of San Anselmo that has been a hot sales item all over town.

Dog News

Summer is finally here! It’s time for picnics, outdoor activities and walks with the dog.  We’d like to remind dog owners about San Anselmo’s rules regarding dogs.

Cleaning up after pets - Persons walking dogs in San Anselmo are required to clean up after their pets.  This means that if your dog defecates on any public property, or private property that isn’t yours, you are responsible to dispose of it in a sanitary manner.

It really isn’t a hard law to comply with.  When walking your dog, carry along a plastic bag for cleanup, and dispose of the bag in a trash can when you get home. The benefits of this ordinance are great for our whole community.  Parks, sidewalks, front lawns, and gutters can be waste free and all residents can walk without worry.  Everybody has to do his or her part, however, to keep San Anselmo dog waste free.  Avoid a fine and carry a plastic bag on walks with canine friends.  Together we can make San Anselmo a model of cooperation.

Off Leash Dogs in Parks - There are several parks in San Anselmo where dogs are permitted to be off leash at all times.

·         The Red Hill Dog Park, located behind Safeway on Shaw Drive, in the Red Hill Community Park, offers a fenced area behind the sports field that is used exclusively for dogs. (Dogs are not allowed at all on the Red Hill sports field.)

·         Dogs are also allowed off leash at Sorich Park, which is located at the end of San Francisco Blvd.

Dogs are permitted to be off leash at Memorial Park during specific times only.  Those hours are:

·         Monday through Friday before 8:00 a.m.

·         Saturday and Sunday before 9:00 a.m.

·         Daily, one hour before sunset.

At other times in Memorial Park, dogs:

·         Must be fastened to and restrained by a chain or leash no more than six feet in length at all times in the picnic/upper lawn areas.

·         May not be on sports fields during sports or group activities being conducted by organized children’s programs.

·         Must be controlled by owners/keepers at all times as to allow the safe use and enjoyment of others in the Park.
