Will Ross Valley Schools Be Open During Storm?

School district officials say they'll announce any possible closures each day of the storm.

The following is a letter sent Tuesday by Superintendent Rick Bagley to the community of Ross Valley School District:

The National Weather Service forecasts a strong storm coming through our area starting sometime Wednesday and possibly lasting into Friday. This storm is projected to be much stronger than the one we had last week, bringing several inches of rain and high winds. The Marin County Office of Education is telling school districts throughout the county to anticipate possible flooding, power outages, transportation delays and other weather-related issues.

Will Schools Be Open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday?
Our plan is to keep schools open as long as there are no extended power outages and/or significant flooding, and students, parents and staff can safely travel to and from school. The decision on whether or not to close schools will be made by 7:00 AM each morning. Please check the main home page of our RVSD website at www.rossvalleyschools.org and/or the District Hotline (415) 721-4751 for school closure information.

We anticipate all schools will be open. However, if during the school day it becomes necessary to close one or more schools, we will make every effort to contact you to arrange for you or someone you designate to transport your child home. Please be sure your school office has your current home, work and mobile phone numbers. Be assured that until we are able to reach you, we will keep your child/children safely with us at school.

Will my child’s “Choice Lunch” be served?
If your child currently participates in our “Choice Lunch” program, we anticipate we will be able to provide his/her lunch as scheduled. As a precautionary measure in case our lunch service is unable to deliver food to schools by regularly scheduled lunch times, we encourage you to send your child/children to school with a sack lunch. If you have specific questions, please phone Ms. Lisa Sabia at (415) 451-4074 or email at lsabia@rossvalleyschools.org.
