The San Francisco Division of the California Highway Patrol reports:
Help us make this Fourth of July Weekend “Fatal-Free” by celebrating responsibly!
The California Highway Patrol wishes you a Happy Fourth of July weekend! Californians love to celebrate the Fourth of July with family, friends, food, and fireworks. All too often these celebrations and festivities turn tragic when someone decides to drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
The CHP and local law enforcement will be out in force during the holiday weekend, in an effort to provide the highest level of service to those using Bay Area roads, but also to reduce or eliminate the amount of fatal collisions. During the Independence Day weekend in 2014, 32 people were killed throughout California, and 70 percent of those killed were not wearing a seat belt. During that same time period, CHP made over 1,300 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Help us make this weekend “fatal-free” by designating a sober driver prior to the start of the festivities, or by opting for public transportation (BART, Caltrain, local transit services, etc.) or ridesharing services. A little pre-planning can prevent a lifetime of tragedy.
Be safe this holiday weekend, and celebrate our Independence Day responsibly!
