At a special meeting on September 27th of San Bruno Park School District, the Board gave direction to Superintendent Dr. Stella Kemp to form a 7-11 committee for the purpose of making recommendations to the District on next steps to bring SBPSD schools up to 21st Century teaching and learning standards, with an emphasis also on fiscal recovery. Superintendent Kemp presented to the Board a vision for “Schools with Tomorrow Inside” calling attention to the excessive amount of improvements and exorbitant costs necessary to bring San Bruno’s aging public schools into the 21st Century. Moving toward consolidating two elementary schools into new and modernized learning centers will considerably enhance the opportunities San Bruno youth will have to become well-prepared to succeed in a global economy.

The State’s vision for school districts forming a 7-11 Committee around major decisions affecting facilities is to bring together a cross section of community members as outlined in Education Code 17389. The intent of the Code is for the Committee to be reflective of parents, teachers and administrators, the business community, and so forth.

It is anticipated the committee will meet for approximately six months, delving deeply into all matters affecting facility and education improvements in San Bruno’s public schools, arriving at a recommendation on which two of the six elementary schools to consolidate. The Committee will work closely with the Superintendent and facility, demographic and other experts to understand the complexities of school consolidation.

Applications to the 7-11 Committee are available on line www.sbpsd.k12.ca.us or at the District Office, 500 Acacia Avenue.

Résumé must also accompany application.

Deadline for applying is Thursday, October 12 at 4 p.m.
