Sustainable San Mateo County (SSMC) is accepting nominations for its annual Sustainability Awards and Green Building Awards through Monday November 13, 2017. Awardees will be recognized at the nonprofit’s 19th Annual Awards gala on Thursday, March 29, 2017.

The Sustainable San Mateo County Awards were founded to raise awareness of sustainability in the community and inspire community members and leaders by recognizing the excellent work happening right in our own back yards. In addition to public recognition of their sustainability contributions in front of hundreds of community and sustainability leaders, awardees will have a professional video made describing their accomplishments.

The Sustainability Award recognizes those whose work has local impact within San Mateo County. The awards recognize San Mateo County businesses, public agencies, community or nonprofit groups, and individuals that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to bringing sustainable practices to their work. Ideally, their work touches on the 3 E’s of Sustainability: Environmental Health, Economic Vitality, and Social Equity.

Some previous Sustainability Award winners are:

  • San Mateo County Resource Conservation District
  • Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company, San Carlos
  • St. Francis Center, Redwood City
  • Kepler’s Books, Menlo Park
  • Gilead 309 Velocity, Foster City
  • San Mateo Main Library, San Mateo
  • Field Station at Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve
  • Habitat for Humanity, Miriam St., Daly City

For the Green Building Awards, SSMC works in partnership with the San Mateo County Chapter of the American Institute of Architects to support sustainable design in architecture, and to recognize the designers, builders, and owners of green buildings in our county. The Green Building Award is open to any building constructed within the last 5 years and currently standing in San Mateo County. Additions and remodels can be nominated.
