Attempted Robbery at South San Francisco ATM Foiled When Victim Fights Back

Police say the victim hit the suspect in the face

An attempted robbery at an ATM in South San Francisco was unsuccessful early Monday morning when a man repeatedly punched the suspect in the face instead of handing over his money, according to police.

The incident occurred at 5:39 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of Linden Avenue, police said.

While the victim was using an ATM, he was confronted by a man demanding money. Rather than hand over his money, the victim punched the suspect in the face several times, according to police.

At some point, the suspect pretended to have a firearm in his jacket pocket, although the victim reported that he did not actually see a gun. The victim fled the scene in his vehicle and later reported the incident, according to police.He suffered minor cuts to his hand as a result of the fistfight.

The suspect is described as a black man between the ages of 25 and 35, standing 5 feet 8 inches and roughly 140 to 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and long-sleeved T-shirt with dark-colored jeans. He has not been identified or arrested, police said.
