Cap's Navarro Named PAL Bay Player of Year

Capuchino High softball star was named the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division’s player of the year on Tuesday.

The catcher and leadoff hitter led the Mustangs in many offensive categories during the regular season, including batting average (.469), hits (38), runs (25), extra-base hits (14) and slugging percentage (.753).

Navarro, a four-year varsity player who will play at College of San Mateo next year, sparked Capuchino (20-6) to a third-place finish in the PAL Bay at 10-4, behind champion Hillsdale (12-2) and Carlmont (11-3).

Mustangs senior pitcher Michele Pilster and junior shortstop Jennifer Lewis were named to the All-PAL Bay first team, and junior infielder Arianna Wassmer landed second-team honors.

Capuchino now takes aim at winning its first Central Coast Section championship since 1997. The Mustangs, who lost in the Division III title game last year, are the No. 2 seed in the Division III bracket and begin with a quarterfinal contest on Saturday against the winner of Wednesday’s Christopher vs. Pacific Grove opener.
