Hello San Bruno,
First off, I am humbled by the appointment to the San Bruno Park School District Board of Trustees. I would like to thank those that voiced support at the public comment section, just before the final voting tally for the appointment. I also would like to thank my fellow candidates for the position, Ms. Deena Lin, and Mr. Chuck Zelnick who expressed their own sincere visions and ideas for the district. Much of what was discussed that evening, surrounded common themes including: Restoring fiscal solvency for the district, supporting teachers and staff and providing more transparency to the public regarding key decisions.

As a background, In November 2015, I ran for an open position for the San Bruno Park School District Board of Trustees. During that election, I spoke mostly about exploring strategies for lowering fixed operating and maintenance costs, supporting teachers and staff, and promoting and building noteworthy STEM and bilingual education programs in our district.
As a product of K-12 public education from my hometown of Martinez, Ca - I believe that we can align schools and curriculum to practical, real world applications for future generations. We also can benefit from building better partnerships with companies and other entities that reside within our San Bruno community and beyond. I also believe that San Bruno is at a pivotal time within our history. The San Francisco Bay Area is not only the economic engine of the entire region but also it is one of the most diverse places on the planet - in terms of food, language and culture. We must celebrate this as well as the hard working and innovative spirit exemplified by embracing new technologies in the classroom and providing excellent language learning programs throughout our district.

I have 19 years work experience in the Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology industry in the areas of: Manufacturing Operations, Data Management and Quality & International Compliance Auditing. In addition, as a teenager and throughout college I worked part time in the areas of foodservice, landscaping, banquet hall staffing, and as an agricultural Inspector. I also have an MBA, Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and Clinical Trial Data Management Certificate. I also speak conversational Spanish and Portuguese.
In summary, much work must be done to effectively: 1) restore fiscal solvency for the district, 2) support teachers and staff, and 3) provide more transparency to the public regarding key decisions. The fiscal situation is grim and we must be willing to ask the right questions and make hard decisions moving forward to be effective. We also must do a better job of reaching out to the community and garnering support for whatever needs to be done. I believe through mature collaboration and teamwork – we can get through these tough times and I am humbled by this sincere opportunity to improve our public schools here in San Bruno, Ca.
Kind Regards
Andrew Mason
