MAJOR ENDORSERS KICK OFF YES ON MEASURE X CAMPAIGN

Wednesday evening (August 29 2018), in an enthusiastic setting at the Senior Center, members of the community gathered to kick off the campaign to rally support for Measure X on the November ballot to fix San Bruno Schools. By the evening’s end, volunteers were signing up to help with phone banking and precinct walking.

Measure X is endorsed by an extensive list of leaders from all sectors of the community, many of whom were at the kick-off: senior citizens, business owners, parents, members of the community-at-large, retirees, and elected officials including Senator Jerry Hill; Assemblymember Kevin Mullin; Dave Pine, President SM County Board of Supervisors; David Canepa, Board of Supervisors; former Mayors Jim Ruane and Larry Franzella; retired City Managers Connie Jackson and Frank Hedley; the Chamber of Commerce and many more. A complete list of endorsers can be found on the campaign website: www.improvesanbrunoschools.com

Mayor Rico Medina joined others at the event to offer his and the Council’s support for improving San Bruno Schools. In attendance were Vice Mayor Laura Davis and Councilmembers Marty Medina and Michael Salazar. The entire Council has endorsed Measure X.

The San Mateo Community College District Board of Trustees passed a Resolution in support of the Bond joining the endorsements of Board President Tom Mohr who attended the kickoff, Chancellor Ron Galatolo and Skyline President Dr. Regina Stanback Stroud.

San Mateo Union High School District was represented by Board President Linda Lees Dwyer. The high school district will be voting on a Resolution in September to support Measure X.

For the past year, in a comprehensive effort to improve student achievement for San Bruno children, San Bruno Park School District staff and community members have evaluated existing educational programs and facilities. The Board of Trustees recommended a comprehensive phased plan to improve aging San Bruno schools, which are between 50-76 years old. Many school facilities are old and ill equipped to sustain 21st century learning.

The Committee to Improve San Bruno Schools is energized by the outpouring of support for the District’s vision of Schools with Tomorrow Inside and Measure X to take education in San Bruno to the next level. Our children deserve no less.
