The Daly City CA Police Departments reports on April 8th event:
Community: S.T.E.P. Operations Results
Yesterday, (April 8th 2015) twenty-three traffic officers from various law enforcement agencies throughout San Mateo County participated in the San Mateo County Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.). This was the fourth deployment of a collaborative effort to increase traffic safety and awareness in known trouble spots throughout San Mateo County in 2015. The April 8th effort focused on traffic education and enforcement in the cities of Daly City and South San Francisco.
As part of April’s “Distracted Driving Awareness Month” campaign, officers focused on those who were texting and operating hand-held cell phones while driving. Officers made in excess of 260 traffic stops in the two cities and issued 233 citations. Of the 233 citations issued, 89 were for distracted driving violations, 38 were for pedestrian safety violations, 32 were for seat belt violations, and 31 were for stop sign violations. Additionally, there were 3 drivers found to be driving unlicensed, 3 drivers found to be driving on a suspended driver license, and one driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
The participating officers remained committed to making a high volume of traffic stops in this coordinated saturation effort, while maintaining the highest levels of community awareness and professionalism. The number of stops and citations during this most recent deployment reflect a sustained enthusiasm for this program and traffic safety on the Peninsula.
The agencies who participated in yesterday’s detail were:
San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, Belmont P.D., Burlingame P.D., Colma P.D., Daly City P.D., East Palo Alto P.D., Foster City P.D., Hillsborough P.D., Menlo Park P.D., Pacifica P.D., Redwood City P.D., San Mateo P.D., and South San Francisco P.D..
