If so, then the County of San Mateo has the place for you.

In September, Civics 101 kicks off its free nine-week series of courses centered around County government and is currently recruiting for the 2018 session. Participants learn about local government, meet local officials and tour County facilities. Many former graduates have used Civics 101 as a springboard to leadership roles in their own communities and to serve in important roles on County and regional boards and commissions.

Civics 101 is open to individuals 18 and older who live or work in San Mateo County.

Classes will be held Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. between Sept. 12 and Nov. 14 in locations throughout San Mateo County. One Saturday morning session from 10 a.m. to noon will also be held.

Applications will be accepted through Sept. 1, 2018.

Seating is limited and early submission is encouraged. The application form and more information, including exact class locations, are available at https://cmo.smcgov.org/civics-101-academy or by contacting Eric Forgaard, civic engagement specialist, at eforgaard@smcgov.org or 650-363-4657.

Applicants will be notified of their enrollment status by Sept. 3, 2018.
