Materials Courier Needed for Nov. 7 Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District Election

Working as an Election Materials Courier is an important part of making the election process work efficiently. The San Mateo County Elections Office is always looking for people to assist on Election Day. They recruit and train as many as 250 couriers depending on the size of the election. This is a volunteer position with a small stipend.

Courier teams include one driver and one attendant.

Minimum Age – Drivers and Attendants must be 18 years of age or older.
Driver Requirement – Drivers must have a good driving record and a vehicle that can be securely locked.
Hours – The polling places close at 8:00 p.m. Assignments are estimated to last 2.5 hours from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. but may last longer.
Compensation – A stipend of $50.00 each is paid for Drivers and Attendants. Mileage reimbursement will be paid to Drivers for miles driven on Election Night at the rate of $0.535 per mile.
Training – Drivers and Attendants are required to attend a training class for which an additional stipend of $15 will be paid if you serve on Election Day.
