ESSAY CONTEST with a theme relating to Americanism
5th thru 8th graders - "Why Our Vets Are America's Heroes" Deadline on/before January 8, 2018

Each year the Elks Lodge of San Mateo sponsors an ESSAY CONTEST with a theme relating to
Americanism. Students in Fifth through Eighth grades are encouraged to participate by writing
an essay of 250 words or less on “Why Our Vets Are America's Heroes”
The first, second and third place winners from each grade level will be awarded a cash prize. First place
winners will be awarded a $100.00 prize. Second and Third place winners will be awarded a $50.00
prize.

The winners will then have an opportunity to proceed to the State and the National contest. Essay
should be submitted to local Elks Lodge on/before January 8, 2018.
