Flooding FEMA Flood Insurance San Bruno CA's Belle Air District

Initially this article involves just parts of the Lower Belle Area District in San Bruno. It does show How FEMA Acts or Does Not Act

Article Source: Robert Riechel

The following initially will only effect a limited (maybe 400 properties) in the Belle Air District of San Bruno and properties to the North of San Bruno Avenue.

The BACKGROUND information should be of interest to others and show HOW FEMA works or does NOT WORK to protect citizens.

For example:

FEMA worked with the City of SSF and San Bruno in developing a Flood Zone Map that FEMA believed showed the effects of Sea Level Raise and Heavy rains on areas of SSF and San Bruno that would flood. FEMA planned to publish a FEMA Flood Zone Map covering these SSF and San Bruno Areas (and additional San Francisco International Airport areas).

The cities of South San Francisco and San Bruno, in reviewing FEMA's proposed MAP, did not agree with FEMA's findings so they banded together and hired a consultant to look at the same expected set of conditions and see if there was another possible conclusion on where in SSF and in San Bruno flooding MAY occur.

FEMA REFUSED to accept and discuss our report. FEMA changed some of the criteria that needed to be evaluated in any report AFTER our report was started WITHOUT notifying us.

My property will be in the FEMA designated Flood Zone unless the map is changed or unless SSF, SFIA, and the County of San Mateo spend BIG BUCKS to fix locations acceptable to FEMA, thus removing the causes of flooding.

If you desire to see/hear HOW FEMA presents their findings and justifies designating parts of the Belle Air District as a Flood Zone, plan to attend the August 27th 2018 6-8 p.m. meeting at the Belle Air School on 3rd Avenue. Plan to arrive early as apparently the City of San Bruno send background and meeting notices to about 400 addresses in San Bruno.

I would expect newsprint and TV media could be covering this meeting.

Inserted below are background documents:

I have been told that the above referenced map is a combination of 2 or more of the 4 of the referenced FEMA maps.

From looking at the FEMA (1 of 4 referenced maps) map covering parts of South San Francisco, many more properties than the possible 400 could be covered in FEMA's proposed Flood Zone Map.

Please consider sharing this information with your San Bruno friends (even those outside of this initial proposed Flood Zone area) as who knows what areas FEMA may next place in a FLOOD ZONE.

Please consider attending the August 27th 2018 6-8 p.m. public meeting at the Belle Air School on 3rd Avenue to support your fellow San Bruno residents as they attempt to influence DIFFERENT ACTIONS by FEMA.

See you August 27 2018 well before 6:00 p.m.as parking may be limited close in.
