Job Announcement: Staff Accountant
About HIP Housing: HIP Housing is nonprofit agency specializing in creative affordable housing solutions throughout San Mateo County. Founded in 1972, HIP Housing provides low-income housing options to 1400 people each year and benefits from an exceptional staff, well-established programs and financial stability. HIP Housing's programs are nationally recognized and have been highlighted in Newsweek, USA Today, Metropolitan Home and on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Our team includes a staff of 36 with an average tenure of 10-years and a diverse governing board of 16 Directors to assist in the advancement of HIP Housing's mission.
Position Profile: As part of HIP Housing's effort to support our business and program efforts through the Accounting Department, we are seeking a self-motivated professional to join our team as Staff Accountant. This position reports directly to the Financial Controller and will be an essential member of the Accounting staff to insure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Job Duties: Assist with general bookkeeping functions of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger; reconcile and monitor balance sheet accounts monthly; prepare periodic journal entries; perform bank reconciliations; and help facilitate independent audits or reviews.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in Business with emphasis in Accounting, or equivalent
* 2+ years' experience in accounting and bookkeeping
* Fundamental knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
* Experience with computer accounting programs, spreadsheets and reporting tools
* Strong PC skills, proficient in Excel and Word. QuickBooks preferred
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills important
* Accuracy and attention to detail
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Exercises tact and diplomacy and maintains confidentiality

Position Benefits: This position is a full-time, exempt, at-will, annually reviewed job. HIP Housing offers an excellent benefits package including generous PTO, employee medical paid at 100%, dental, vision, employer profit sharing and matched pension plan (5%). Additionally, this position features alternating Friday's off with an initial 3-month probation period.
