Lieutenant Troy F. Fry

The Under 21 Consumption of Alcohol Suppression Team (<21 COAST Task Force) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $56,823 grant from the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to combat alcohol related criminal activity. The task force is comprised of officers from the San Bruno, Pacifica, and South San Francisco Police Departments. The Pacifica Police Department has successfully managed the <21 COAST Task Force since 2006. The San Bruno Police Department has assumed the management of this program for the Fiscal Year 2018-2019.

“The members of the <21 COAST Task Force will continue to operate collaboratively in our three jurisdictions with the goal of reducing alcohol related crime through enforcement, education, and community involvement. Our continual efforts to reduce alcohol related crime specifically address issues that negatively impact the quality of life for our residents related to ABC licensed premises,” San Bruno Police Lieutenant Fry said. “The partnership developed with the Alcoholic Beverage Control, Pacifica and South San Francisco Police Departments has allowed us to conduct additional enforcement of existing alcohol related laws and increase the social awareness of the dangers of irresponsible alcohol consumption,” Lieutenant Fry added.

The grant is one of many awarded in California to local law enforcement agencies through ABC’s Alcohol Policing Partnership (APP) Program.

The grant strengthens local law enforcement efforts by combining the efforts of local police officers and ABC Agents. ABC Agents possess expertise in alcoholic beverage laws and can help communities reduce alcohol-related problems.

“The program improves the quality of life in neighborhoods,” said ABC Director Jacob Appelsmith. “We’ve seen a real difference in the communities where the grant program resources have been invested.”

The Alcohol Policing Partnership Program was created in 1995 to strengthen partnerships between ABC and local law enforcement agencies. The program is designed to put bad operators out of business, keep alcohol away from minors, and bring penalties such as fines, suspensions, or revocations against businesses that violate the law.

Grant funds will be used to reduce the number of alcoholic beverage sales to minors, obviously intoxicated patrons, illegal solicitations of alcohol, and other criminal activities such as the sale and possession of illegal drugs.

The APP Program has distributed over $20 million to local law enforcement to combat alcohol-related crime.

ABC is a Department of the Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency.

Anyone with information pertaining to alcohol-related crime is urged to contact the San Bruno Police Department at (650) 616-7100 or sbpdtipline@sanbruno.ca.gov Information can be left anonymously.
