"I would like to start by thanking everyone for being here tonight. I am so very grateful to each and every one of you for your support. I would especially thank Judy Puccini for all of her help with my campaign. And to Judy and Tony Kraus for coordinating this event tonight. I want to thank the Society of Western Artists for making their gallery available to us. I want to thank Sandra , my wonderful wife of 20 years for her support. She was reluctant about me running at first but she knew how much this means to me and she is 100% behind me now. I want to recognize a few members of family who are also here, my mother and my sister Maria and my nephew Luke. I want to thank Dave Pine for his support and for making the time to be here tonight to demonstrate his support for my campaign and for the City of San Bruno. Finally, I want to thank Jim and Ken for their kind words and their support on my campaign as well their support and friendship over the years as we served together on the council. These men put their trust in me back in 2009 when they appointed me to join them on the council and were an inspiration to me during my term on Council."

Candidate Salazar, from prepared remarks stated

"San Bruno is a great city - full of people that help each other. The people here volunteer for everything – so it’s easy to get swept up in that spirit and want to give back. In my time, here I’ve volunteered with AYSO Soccer, San Bruno Tee Ball, the St. Robert’s Festival, The Crime Prevention Committee (I coordinated San Bruno’s first National Night Out in 2007), currently I’m on the Park and Recreation Committee, and for six years on the City Council. Each of these was a rewarding experience. But it was my time on the city council that I felt I could make a real difference."

Candidate Salazar, in his prepared remarks

"Since our supervisor, Dave Pine is here today it is especially appropriate to talk about our partnership with the County. That partnership is more important than ever as we struggle with issues like affordable housing, homelessness and transit issues. Dave has proven his commitment to San Bruno and I know I will be able to count on Dave and his colleagues on the Board of Supervisors to help us find and implement regional solutions to some of our biggest problems."

"The support we get as elected officials has to come from trust. You have to trust that the people you vote for will do the right thing. You have to trust that they will look out for your best interest. You have to trust that they are serving the community and not themselves. I have always done what I believe is right and I have always listened to the people who have reached out. I hope that the fact you are here today means that I have earned your trust to represent you faithfully. I will make sure I live up to it."

Candidate Salazar, in prepared remarks,

"With Jim and Ken stepping down after two decades of service there will be change and possibly some instability. We need people with real experience to see us through the transition and ensure we keep our momentum going. With your support and your guidance, we will continue to move San Bruno forward. I am going to need your help to get back on the Council. I need your vote. And your neighbors vote, and your friends vote, their friends and so on and so on until we reach every voter."

Candidate Salazar, in prepared remarks:

"I have a lot to be proud of during my time on Council. We held the City together during the recession. We helped put it back together when PG&E blew it up. We stood by our residents and we recovered."

Candidate Salazar, in prepared remarks:

"We saw the ground breaking of the first new development in our Downtown just down the street from here. We saw the completion of the grade separation. We saw the beginning of the City’s first major public works renovation effort. There is plenty more to come and there is still a lot of work to be done."

Candidate Salazar, in prepared remarks:

"Now, I’m not saying that we can’t continue to improve. There is always room for improvement. When the criticism we receive is well founded – we have to accept it. If we have the ability to do things better we should, and we will. I see opportunities to improve our communication within City Hall and out to the public, I see opportunities to be more efficient, and opportunities to be more inclusive."

"I am also deeply honored and grateful for the others who have endorsement my campaign: State Senator Jerry Hill, Assemblyman Kevin Mullin, Supervisors Pine and Canepa and our Mayor, Jim Ruane and Councilmember Ken Ibarra, former Mayor Larry Franzella and of course all of you."
