Dear Resident:

This notice is to inform you that the Public Works Department is tentatively scheduled to begin construction on the Mills Park Neighborhood Street Light Conversion Project during the week of October 23, 2017, weather depending. The contractor, St. Francis Electric, will provide a more detailed schedule prior to the start of construction.

The City of San Bruno experienced a streetlight outage in the Mills Park 3, 5 and 6 neighborhoods that affected streetlights on the following streets: Magnolia Avenue, Cypress Avenue, Olive Court, Kains Avenue, Sycamore Avenue, Chestnut Avenue, Williams Avenue, Park Avenue, Hazel Avenue, Cedar Avenue, Pepper Drive, Hawthorne Avenue, and Redwood Avenue.

The lights are on a Regulated Output (RO) circuit, which means that a series of lights share a single power source, similar to holiday lights. Fifty streetlights connected to the RO circuit were affected by the outage. PG&E crews successfully split the circuit in two to allow 26 streetlights where the electrical wires were installed within conduits to be functional. Due to the difficulties associated with repairing the direct buried wires that power the remaining 24 streetlights, it was determined that converting those streetlights to a more reliable parallel streetlight circuit with wires installed within conduits would minimize any future failures and eliminate safety issues with having high voltage electricity in the neighborhood.

The Mills Park Neighborhood Street Light Conversion project consists of converting the existing street light RO circuit to a more reliable street light parallel circuit. This conversion will restore the affected street lights to full functionality and shall minimize any future group street light failures. Work consists of replacing 11 street light poles and foundations, rewiring 13 existing street light poles, trench work for conduit installation, installation of pullboxes, replacement of sidewalk and curb & gutter, and the installation of PG&E service connections. During the construction process, affected streetlights may be turned off at certain periods. All work will be on City right-of-way. Please see the attached map of light poles to be replaced and rewired.

The project is anticipated to be completed by April 2018, weather depending. Residents will be impacted by dust, noise, parking restrictions, temporary traffic lane and pedestrian walkway closures during construction. The City appreciates the neighborhood’s understanding and patience while the City moves towards completing the construction work.
