Police Need Help Finding Missing Elderly Belmont Man
He was last seen in McCloud, near Mt. Shasta, according to the Belmont Police Department.

The following is a news release submitted for publication by the City of Belmont:
Belmont Police are looking for an 87 year old Belmont man, after he failed to return home after a trip to the Mt. Shasta area of Northern California
On Thursday, 9/4/14 at approximately 9:00 PM, Belmont Police received a call from a woman, who requested a welfare check on her father, Belmont resident Paul Merrill. The woman reported that her father Paul had gone on a trip to the Mt. Shasta area and checked out of a hotel in McCloud, California (Siskiyou County) that morning at approximately 10:00 AM, but had not been heard from since.
When Officers went to Merrill’s home on Korbel Way they found no one home and Merrill’s silver 1956 Mercedes 190 SL convertible was not there. There is no indication of foul play at this time, however officers learned that Merrill is a widower, suffers from depression and does not have a cell phone. A missing person investigation was begun and a request for a Silver Alert was made to the California Highway Patrol.

As of this press release, Belmont Police detectives are attempting to ascertain Merrill’s whereabouts and check his welfare. Merrill is described as a white male, 5’11” tall, with gray thinning hair and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a green jacket, brown plaid shirt, khaki pants with a yellow alligator type belt, tan shoes and a light blue sailor/fishing cap.
