Sacramento – Today, Governor Jerry Brown released his 2015-2016 Revised Budget which updates his fiscal priorities for the coming year. The Governor’s initial budget proposal was released in January of this year. Speaker pro Tem Kevin Mullin (D-San Mateo) released the following statement in response:
“This is a fiscally-responsible balanced approach that pays down debt, re-invests in schools and acknowledges our state’s challenges with income inequality and poverty.

I am pleased to see that the Governor’s Revised Budget provides a total of $5.5 billion dollars to K-12 schools and community colleges. It is also important that we are increasing our allocation to the voter approved Proposition 2 Rainy Day Fund and repaying old debt obligations and liabilities.
As a member of the California Workforce Investment Board, I’m also pleased that the Governor has included a $150 million increase in funding providing a total of $1.4 billion to support Career Technical Education, Adult Education and Community College Apprenticeship Programs.
Another important addition to the May Revise is the first-ever California Earned Income Tax Credit to assist our lowest-income workers. This $380 million tax credit is a positive step forward in addressing the high level of poverty in California. It is also consistent with AB 43, which I have co-authored with Assemblymember Mark Stone (D-Monterey).
I also appreciate the Governor’s commitment to affordable housing. The May Budget revision reflects new Cap and Trade revenues for transportation related programs. Specifically, the Cap and Trade revenue estimates $400 million for the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Program.
I look forward to working with my Assembly and Senate colleagues over the coming weeks to find ways to improve on an already strong foundation and make vital investments in California’s future.”
