SamTrans Launches ECR Rapid, Route SFO
SamTrans will launch two new services on Sunday, June 24. The ECR Rapid will travel from the Redwood City Transit Center to Daly City BART serving 12 stops along El Camino Real, while Route SFO will run regular direct service between the Millbrae Transit Center and all SFO terminals.
The ECR Rapid will run from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. The ECR is currently SamTrans’ highest performing route, with approximately 9,000 riders per weekday. The new addition is intended to provide an express option for new and existing riders seeking to travel longer distances.
Route SFO will run from 5:45 a.m. to midnight on weekdays, 8:20 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. on Sundays. The route is designed to provide an easy connection from Caltrain to SFO, as the bus comes directly to the Millbrae Station platform. The buses running this route have a special wrap and a luggage rack for rider’s convenience. In order to generate interest, the route will be free of charge for its first two weeks of operation until end of service on July 7. A promotional event is scheduled for the route on June 21 as a part of National Dump the Pump Day.
“ECR Rapid will bolster our existing service while Route SFO will offer a vital connection for Peninsula residents while also bringing visitors into our community,” said SamTrans Board Chair Charles Stone. “When SamTrans sees a need for increased service, we make every effort to provide the buses to meet it.”
