Summer Reading at the Library

The San Bruno Library Summer Reading program is underway! Read wherever you are throughout the summer, have fun and get prizes! Kids get a free book when they sign up, can participate in weekly prize drawings, and when they finish their reading log, get a raffle ticket for the $1,000 college scholarship. There's a program for adults too--one lucky adult finisher will get a $100 gift card!

Friendship Exhibition of Children’s Art at the Library

Ten award-winning pieces from the Narita International Exchange of Children’s Art are on display in the San Bruno Library’s Children’s room. These pieces represent hundreds of entries received from all over the world and displayed last fall in San Bruno’s Sister City, Narita, Japan. Come by this month to see children’s art on the delicious theme of “food.”

Science Festival and Ice Cream Social! July 25 - 2PM-4PM

San Bruno Library
We’re taking over the library for an afternoon with a hands-on science activity festival including “meet a marine animal” with the Marine Science Institute (link https://www.sfbaymsi.org/), and color and construct your own math shapes with Polyhedra Party! (link http://polyhedra.stacyspeyer.net/polyhedra-party/) Ice cream served at 3PM. For all ages.

Special Storytime: Police Department

Calling all future police officers! Join us for a special storytime at the Library! On Thursday, July 19th, real police officers from the San Bruno Police Department will read stories and interact with the children starting at 11:15am. This is a free event and no reservations are necessary. So come by the library at 11:15am on Thursday, July 19th to meet and interact with Police Officers from your City with a Heart.

Travel the World with Thursday Activities

Join us for our Thursday Afternoon virtual world tour and Hands-on “making” programs from 3-4. The World of Food with Leah's pantry starts with a short talk at the beginning and then the participants prepare the food. Kids, please bring your grownup. Adults are encouraged to participate with their kids in all the activity afternoons—there are plenty of supplies! At the Tanabata festival, we’ll have a Kamishibai or “Paper Theater” story and learn about the real stars which inspired the legend before we dive in to the crafts. The Cartouche program will have some background as well. The other programs are drop in and get started!

July 5: The Mediterranean: A world of Food with Leah’s Pantry. Learn how to prepare some delicious and healthy Hummus & Veggie Pita Sandwiches.

Paws for Tales

Paws for Tales is the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA's (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) reading to dogs program where therapy dogs and their handlers work with children in library and school settings. Studies show that children who are reluctant to read in front of peers because of their skills are much less anxious with an animal present. Dogs offer unconditional love: they are not intimidating or judgmental. They are the perfect reading companion. Just drop in! San Bruno Senior Center Membership: Help the Senior Center continue to bring high quality programs and services to the community by becoming a Senior Center Supporter. The annual “Supporter” fee is $15 per year for San Bruno residents and $20 for Non Residents. Applications are available at the reception desk. You will receive some coupons with your membership plus the satisfaction of supporting the Senior Center.

  • Pedro Lessons - If you are interested in learning this card game, sign up at the registration desk and we will arrange a lesson time with Elmer Madrid.
  • Team of enthusiastic players (50+) who practice and play softball on Thursday mornings (usually 9:30am-noon) at Lions Field (weather permitting).
