Detective Sergeant Scott Luciano

Scott “Lucky” Luciano grew up in the Crestmoor area of San Bruno. He graduated from Burlingame High School then attended Canada College. In August of 1990, Scott was hired as a Police Recruit and he attended the Basic Law Enforcement Academy at Gavilan College in Gilroy. Upon graduating from the academy, Chief Frank Hedley appointed Scott as a Police Officer. Scott later attended the prestigious California Highway Patrol motorcycle school and in July of 1994, Scott was assigned as a motorcycle officer.

In September of 1994, Chief Joe Palla nominated Scott for the Peninsula Lyons Club’s Police Heroism award. Scott showed extreme calm when a vehicle he was pursing skidded to a stop and two of four occupants responsible for committing an armed robbery in San Mateo, jumped from the vehicle and ran. One of the two suspects then turned and fired two shots at Scott as he brought his motorcycle to a stop. Even after this, Scott gave chase on foot and captured and arrested the suspects who attempted to shoot him. The firearm was then recovered along the path of the foot pursuit. This incident placed Scott in the imminent threat of death or great bodily injury, yet he kept his composure and performed his duties calmly and professionally.

In August of 1998, Scott was assigned to the Investigative Services Section as a Detective where he was instrumental in solving many major crimes. In April of 2001, Scott returned to the motorcycle officer assignment where he excelled until being assigned as a Corporal between October of 2001 and May of 2002.

In May of 2002, Scott was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He served as a Patrol Sergeant from May of 2002 to October of 2007. Scott was then assigned as the Detective Sergeant in the Investigative Services Section until March of 2010, at which time he resumed his Patrol Sergeant duties until May of 2015. Scott is currently assigned to the Investigative Services Section as the supervisor in charge of the Major Crimes Division.

Scott has also served our department as a Field Training Officer and Range Master. Scott has mentored many officers and has performed his duties in an exemplary manner, utilizing excellent judgment, during some very stressful and life threatening conditions throughout his 25 years of loyal and dedicated service to the community of San Bruno.
