San Bruno Police Aid in Special Peninsula Traffic Safety Operation

Officers from Burlingame PD, San Bruno PD, Belmont PD, and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office participated in the operation.

Dozens of drivers were ticketed in a special one-day traffic safety operation on the Peninsula this week, police report.

According to Burlingame Police Sgt. Jim Ford, officers from Burlingame, San Bruno, Belmont and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office all took part in a traffic safety deployment focused on the use of seat belts in the cities of Burlingame and Belmont on Monday.

As a result of the operation, officers pulled over 73 vehicles in the two cities, and ultimately issued 63 citations, according to Ford.

He said the 63 citations were issued as follows:

  • 15 were for seat belt violations
  • 12 were for failing to obey a traffic control device
  • 10 were for distracted driving violations
  • 7 were for speeding violations
  • 19 citations were for a various traffic safety violations

Another driver was also found, and cited, for driving on a suspended license, the sergeant said.

"This education and enforcement deployment is part of an ongoing Office of Traffic Safety funded effort in San Mateo County to increase traffic safety on the Peninsula, coordinated by the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association," he said.

Funding for the operation came from state and federal grants.
