San Bruno Students Get First-Hand Look at How Police Battle DUI Offenders
Local high school students participated in the U-DETER program.
SAN BRUNO, CA- Students from Capuchino High School in San Bruno had the opportunity to accompany patrol officers Saturday night performing alcohol and drug impaired-driving arrests, according to police.
Police said as a part of their Underage DUI Education through Exposure to Repercussions, or U-DETER, program students will get a first hand look and hopefully reduce the occurrence of underage impaired driving.
San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini said in a statement, "Driving under the influence is one of the most prevalent and persistent crimes affecting our community, and DUI saturation patrols have proven to be one of the most effective tools in combating this epidemic."

Police said over the course of the past three years, officers have investigated dozens of DUI collisions, which have resulted in numerous injuries.
According to police, officers were looking for signs of alcohol and or drug impairment, as well as checking drivers for proper licensing and other criminal activities.

Funding for the U-DETER program was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Safety Administration.
