Reminder: check for standing water after rain to prevent mosquitoes
The District would like to remind you again to check your property for standing water after each rain. Even small items like buckets, vases, plant pots and saucers, children’s toys, and wheelbarrows can produce thousands of mosquitoes if they’re not dumped out regularly.

Please help us out by doing a quick inspection of your front and back yard, and dumping out anything that is currently holding water. Small items can be discarded, turned over, or stored indoors to prevent them from refilling after the next rain. Rain barrels should be fully mosquito-proofed. If you have items that need to hold water, like pet water bowls or bird baths, please make sure the water gets changed every few days.
Getting rid of standing water is your best defense against mosquitoes and the health risks they pose. If you have any questions about how to eliminate standing water on your property, or need help with standing water you can’t dump or drain, please visit www.smcmvcd.org or call (650) 344-8592. Our services are available to ANY resident of San Mateo County and there is no fee for any of our services.
