Peninsula Clean Energy Celebrates 1-Year Anniversary; Saves Residents & Businesses Millions Annually

On the one-year anniversary of Peninsula Clean Energy offering electric power, San Mateo County residents and businesses have substantially reduced their carbon emissions while saving $17 million this past year. Peninsula Clean Energy now serves almost every electricity account in San Mateo County, from homes to streetlights, to businesses large and small in all 20 cities and unincorporated areas. County of San Mateo Departments Step Up to Aid Napa, Sonoma Counties

Several County of San Mateo departments provided round-the-clock mutual aid and other types of support during the recent wildfires in Sonoma and Napa counties that inflicted unbelievable damage to life and property. In total, San Mateo County law enforcement — the Sheriff’s Office and all cities in the county — deployed 725 personnel to help in the two counties. The Health System’s Emergency Medical Services division coordinated deployment of two ambulances and an ambulance strike team, a group of behavioral health specialists assigned to various shelters and three other Health staff members. One member of the Information Services Department’s GIS team was sent and the County's communications team also provided daily support to their northern colleagues. Our Coroner’s Office and Planning and Building remain on standby for deployment if needed to help.

San Mateo County Elections Office Unveils New Accessible Vote by Mail System

The San Mateo County Elections Office announced this week the launch of a new Accessible Vote by Mail system for disabled and visually impaired voters. The new Accessible Vote by Mail system allows disabled and visually impaired voters to access and mark their ballot in a screen-readable format using their personal computers. San Mateo County will be the first county in the State of California to deploy an Accessible Vote by Mail system as authorized under AB 2252 Remote Accessible Vote by Mail Systems. LEARN HERE

San Mateo County Residents Apply for U.S. Citizenship at Immigration Workshop

The County's Human Services Agency (HSA) and the International Institute of the Bay Area recently hosted a citizenship workshop in Daly City, assisting more than 300 residents and HSA clients with their citizenship applications, a step-by-step process to becoming a U.S. citizen. Future workshops are planned and an inventory of countywide services including immigration and legal services are available for the immigrant community living in San Mateo
