San Mateo County Community Resilience Grants Program Proposals due September 17th, 5:00 PM PST

San Mateo County is launching the Community Resilience Grants Program to support the next steps from the County’s Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment. We are seeking proposals that support local communities in assessing, planning for, and/or implementing innovative and collaborative sea level rise adaptation projects.

Who’s eligible?

Cities and towns, special districts, Joint Powers Authorities, schools, and non-profit organizations in San Mateo County are eligible applicants.

How much funding is available?

The County of San Mateo is providing up to $200,000 for sea level rise adaptation assessment, planning or implementation projects through the Community Resilience Grants Program. Selected grant recipients may be awarded a maximum of $90,000.

Local Coastal Program Grants

The California Coastal Commission is pleased to announce the open solicitation period for the Local Coastal Program Grant Program! Emphasis is placed on planning strategies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Information on project eligibility, evaluation criteria, and submission requirements are available on the program website. Applications are due September 14, 2018.

California Coastal Commission Updates Sea Level Rise Science

The California Coastal Commission updated its Sea Level Rise Policy Guidance with the best available science, using the 2018 OPC State Sea Level Rise Guidance. The Draft Science Update will be presented as an informational item at the Coastal Commission meeting in Redondo Beach on Thursday, August 9, 2018, and considered for adoption at a future meeting. Public comments on the science updates can be sent to SLRGuidanceDocument@coastal.ca.gov by 5 p.m. on September 7, 2018.


Ocean Climate Film Screening and DiscussionThe San Mateo County chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby and the San Mateo Library are hosting a screening on ocean health and climate change and a discussion of actions people can take. Join the discussion on Monday, September 10th from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM at the San Mateo Public Library, 55 W 3rd Ave.
