Dear Friends:
Please join me for my annual Service Academy Information Night on Friday, September 21st at 6 p.m. at the South San Francisco Municipal Services Building.
Each year, I have the honor of nominating a select few of my District’s best and brightest students to receive a tuition-free education at one of our five United States Service Academies – the Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Military Academy at West Point, Coast Guard Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy. These institutions of higher education prepare young women and men to serve the country as military officers and consistently rank in the nation’s top universities .

This event is for middle school and high school students who are interested in attending an academy and for counselors and teachers who would like to learn about the nomination process. Representatives from the Academies - U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy - will be on hand to answer questions.

For a student to be considered for an appointment to an academy, the applicant must have a nomination from an authorized nominating source. As a Representative in Congress, I can nominate students who live in my District and exhibit the type of character, scholarship, leadership, physical aptitude, goals, and motivation required by the academies. I am fortunate to have a distinguished panel of current and retired military personnel who review the applications, conduct interviews, and advise me to select the most qualified candidates.

As we move forward into the application period, I want to ensure that you are aware of the academy resources available for counselors and students through my office. The application and basic information can be found on my website . The academy application process differs from the standard college application and students may not be accustomed to that process. The deadline to apply for a Congressional Nomination through my office is Wednesday, November 14, 2018.
