Environmental Health Services Conducts Sharps & Needles Survey
To better understand sharps and needle use and disposal in San Mateo County, the County's Environmental Health Services is conducting a short survey for those who need injections for medical reasons or have pets that require shots. The San Mateo County Health System currently lists resources and sharps disposal locations in San Mateo County here. Board of Supervisors and Domestic Violence Council Seeks Nominations for Hammerman Award
Sponsored by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and the Domestic Violence Council, the Barbara Hammerman Domestic Violence Law Enforcement Award honors exceptional public service addressing domestic violence in San Mateo County. The award was created in honor of the late Barbara Hammerman, a City of San Mateo Police Lieutenant, whose legacy of exemplary service and dedication to survivors of domestic violence serves as a model for the County’s law enforcement community. It's back to school time when the beginning of the school year can bring confusion and frustration for motorists who experience the increase of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. By following a few simple tips from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, some back-to-school related accidents can be avoided. Community safety is a team effort and the Sheriff's Office wants everyone to remember to follow the rules of the road so every student in San Mateo County has a safe and successful start to their school year. Parks Department Offers New Way for San Mateo County Parks Visitors to Pay
San Mateo County Parks has installed machines at three park locations that make it easier for park visitors to pay the $6 entrance fee using cash, debit and credit cards. The three locations are San Bruno Mountain Park, Junipero Serra Park and Coyote Point Recreation Area. Seniors (62+) on non-holidays Monday through Friday, and veterans with proof of veteran's status, enter San Mateo County Parks for free. However, they still need to print out a stub and place it on their dashboard. LEARN MORE
County of San Mateo and Veterans Commission Open Nomination Period for Veteran Awards
The County of San Mateo and San Mateo County Veterans Commission are now accepting nominations for the 2018 Veteran of the Year, Patriot of the Year and Enterprise the Year awards. The awards recognize a veteran resident as well as a San Mateo County non-veteran resident and for-profit or non-for-profit corporation that has demonstrated exemplary service to the country and/or community. The awards will be presented at a luncheon to be held on Nov. 8, 2018. All nominations must be received no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018. NOMINATE HERE
