Probation Department Works to Make a Difference in Lives of Those They Serve

The County of San Mateo kicked off Pretrial, Probation, Parole Supervision Week with a proclamation from the Board of Supervisors designating July 15-21, 2018, as Probation Services Week in San Mateo County. The County's Probation Department fulfills its mission enhancing community safety, reducing crime, and assisting the victims of crime through offender accountability and rehabilitation by providing programs and services that are client centered and collaborative with County departments and community partners. Through this work the Probation Department has significantly contributed to the reduction of juvenile offenders in San Mateo County, according to Chief Probation Officer John Keene, who brings more than 25 years of law enforcement experience to his role as leader of the County's Probation Department. County Officials Participate in Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Brisbane Library

The construction of a new library on the Peninsula has begun. On July 14, 2018, residents of all ages came together for a true community event to break ground on the building of a long-awaited new library in Brisbane. It featured fun prize giveaways from San Mateo County Libraries, a poetry reading, speeches by local officials including members of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and, breaking ground with the traditional golden shovels. The County of San Mateo is proud to support this valuable project with funds from the Measure K half-cent sales tax extension as well as a $1.7 million low-interest loan. The new Brisbane Library is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2019. LEARN MORE

San Mateo County Parks Offers Visitors Variety of Natural Settings This Summer

San Mateo County Parks operates 22 separate parks, encompassing over 16,000 acres, and 190 miles of county and local trails, including three regional trails. Parks are located throughout San Mateo County and represent a wide variety of natural settings including a coastside marine reserve, a bayside recreational area, coastal mountain woodland areas, and urban sites. Many parks offer shaded areas and trails as well as picnic spots, campgrounds and visitor centers. Summer is a great time to visit a County park to get familiar with a park that's close by or to explore locations beyond your favorite spot, especially with park hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. now through Labor Day. San Mateo County Named Among Most Tech-Savvy Counties Nationwide

The County of San Mateo placed third in the 2018 Digital Counties Survey, the 16th annual ranking of the most technologically-savvy counties in the United States. The County was recognized among other counties in the 500,000 to 999,999 population range for the value it places on technology and the empowerment of its tech leaders. Key elements of the County’s submission included its sweeping open data initiative, its technological collaboration with a wide variety of public and private partners, its efforts to shatter the digital divide by offering more than 70 free SMC Public Wi-Fi sites and the launch of its highly innovative SMC Labs program.
