City Manager Connie Jackson, City of San Bruno

Yesterday, (10/16/2017) the City of San Bruno posted a message on Nextdoor regarding information that was provided to the City by PG&E advising of scheduled PG&E work to their system which includes the venting of natural gas to the atmosphere. This work is scheduled for Tuesday, October 17 and Wednesday, October 18, 2017 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (depending on work progress.)

In response to the post, several residents requested the location of the venting, expressed concern for air quality and the short notice to residents. PG&E has confirmed the location as PG&E’s Lomita Park station, near the east end of Santa Helena Avenue, San Bruno. PG&E previously worked with the Bay Area Quality Management District to mitigate air quality concerns and advises that the volume of gas to be released is very small and the wind is expected to carry it out over the bay. Natural gas is also lighter than air, so it dissipates quickly.

PG&E advises that they try to provide 48 hours notice for this type of work. In this case PG&E outreached to residents by phone with a 24 hours notice of the anticipated work. PG&E encourages anyone who has questions or concerns about the smell of gas to call PG&E 24 hours a day at 1-800-PGE (743) 5000 or call 911 immediately.
