County of San Mateo Releases Fiscal Year 2018-19 Recommended Budget

The County of San Mateo released its Fiscal Year 2018-19 Recommended Budget which the Board of Supervisors will consider at the end of June along with advice from outgoing County Manager John Maltbie to prepare for future economic uncertainty. The proposed $2.75 billion budget continues following through on the three primary goals adopted by the Board in 2015: end homelessness, improve reading proficiency and ensure all foster youth graduate from high school and complete the equivalent of two years of college or vocational training. July 4 Message From San Mateo County Sheriff's Office on Safety and Illegal Fireworks

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents that illegal fireworks and the unsafe discharge of firearms are dangerous and illegal in San Mateo County. The Sheriff’s Office will be deploying resources to target and enforce these violations within the areas of the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction (see patrol service areas here). “Safe and Sane” labeled fireworks are only allowed within specific areas in San Bruno and Pacifica and are illegal in the rest of San Mateo County. Call your local police department to report non-emergencies and 911 for emergencies. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office wants everyone in the community to have a safe and enjoyable July 4th holiday weekend. LEARN MORE

San Mateo County Parks Department Posts Final Flood Park Environment Impact Report on Website

The final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Flood Park improvement project is now available for review on the Reimagine Flood Park project page. The report includes the October 3 Draft EIR and Appendices and the May 15 Final EIR and Response to Comments. The presentation on the project and the EIR scheduled to be made to the San Mateo County Parks & Recreation Commission on June 7 has been postponed until the August 2 meeting. The public is invited to make statements about the final report to the Commission at the meeting. Acceptance of the EIR opens the door for construction design to begin sometime in late 2018 or early 2019. LEARN MORE

County Controller's Office Wins Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Continuing its winning streak, the San Mateo County Controller’s Office was honored for the 18th straight year with the highest recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. The annual Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) provides transparency into County of San Mateo’s finances from funds spent on public safety and social services to roads, parks and more. In addition, the County’s Financial Highlights Report for FY 2016-17, a condensed version of the denser CAFR, was also recently honored for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for the 16th consecutive year. County of San Mateo Celebrates World WiFi Day With 70+ Public WiFi Sites on the Peninsula

World WiFi Day on June 20 is a global initiative to help bridge the digital divide. Here in the heart of Silicon Valley many residents have no access to high-speed Internet connections due to the cost, location or other hurdles. The County of San Mateo is committed to providing free WiFi access to all residents through Measure K funds. The County's Information Services Department first launched the SMC Public WiFi project in 2014 to equip unserved and underserved communities with free Internet access. Today, there are now 36 free public WiFi locations throughout San Mateo County as well as at more than 40 County facilities. LEARN MORE
