Violent Halloween Home Invasion Reported on Peninsula

"Police patrols of the area have been increased and will remain in effect indefinitely," SMPD said.

San Mateo police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down whomever is responsible for a scary attack on local residents this Halloween.

SMPD says it happened around 11:40 p.m. Saturday, in the 300 block of Georgetown Avenue, near Alameda de las Pulgas and Crystal Springs Road, when ”at least” four masked suspects entered the house, confronting the three people inside.

Police say the suspects were armed with handguns.

“The suspects physically assaulted two of the victims who sustained non-life threatening injuries,” a news release from the agency states. “During a struggle inside the residence, one of the suspects inadvertently discharged his handgun, but no one was hit by the bullet.”

After demanding money from the victims, the suspects left, and the victims called the cops, police said.

“Officers conducted an extensive area check of the immediate and surrounding areas for the suspects and evidence, as well as to ensure the safety of the neighborhood,” police said.

However, the suspects were not found, and police say they believe this was an isolated incident. What’s more, they are trying to figure out why this particular residence was “specifically targeted for this crime.”

“SMPD Officers and Detectives have been working around the clock in this case and an updated press release will be done if and when the need arises,” police said. “Police patrols of the area have been increased and will remain in effect indefinitely.”

Anyone who may have information for the authorities is asked to contact Detective John Rink at (650)522-7617 or call the SMPD Secret Witness Line at (650)522-7676.
