Hurricane Irma caused major damage in Florida.
OneBlood, Florida’s largest blood center, has issued a special request for platelets from blood centers across the country. They have not been fully operational since Hurricane Irma hit and they—and the patients they serve—need our help. That’s why we’re urging our generous donors to come in and give platelets as soon as you can, preferably within the next week. Schedule your appointment now by calling us at 800-707-8483. The best way to be ready for severe weather or other tragedies is to have a strong blood supply, especially platelets, already on hand. It is the blood on hospital shelves that saves lives. And while Florida needs our help now, there’s a continuous need for platelets in our community. Platelets have a very short shelf life—only 5 days—and are typically used by cancer patients. They can be donated every 14 days, so please come forward again in a few weeks to help replenish the supply.
Another way you can help is by donating your HERO Rewards points to the Hurricane Harvey Relief fund.
The money will go directly to support the work of the United Way of Greater Houston, a non-profit organization collecting funds to support the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Simply log in to your HERO Rewards account and designate your points to this effort. You can do that here, www.bloodheroes.com Thank you for stepping up to help our neighbors in need. Blood Centers of the Pacific Now boarding! It is not too late to book your trip with our Platelet Passport program if you have not already. If you have, keep the journey going to make it to the next bonus reward. The first reward is a t-shirt, the second is a travel amenity case, and the third? Well, you will just have to find out when you donate. As a platelet donor, you are automatically enrolled when you make a donation. Platelet donors are issued a Passport Punch Card to track their journey and earn special rewards every two donations.
