Apointee Resigns after Badmouthing Downtown Biz Association

Local political activist George Gregory this week resigned from his appointment as city representative to the Downtown Business Association in the midst of controversy over comments he made against the organization.

Gregory criticized the association in interviews for the appointment, calling the business owners "needy and greedy" and expressing his opinion they shouldn't be getting city money to operate city events, among other remarks, according to the OC Register.

“I regret some of my language used,” Gregory told the council. “I think I could be an asset to their corporation and improve their general vision, put grants to better use.”

But after DBA President Michael Kaupp expressed an interest in eliminating Gregory’s involvement, the council and both parties came to an agreement to eliminate the position entirely, and Gregory resigned.

“We’ve implemented a series of ideas that George has brought, for what I think is the better of San Clemente," said Councilman Tim Brown.
