Mark Your Calendars for a Summer of Surf Competitions

San Clemente's groms and professional surfers get ready for the contest season.

Spring is here and the surf world has a full schedule of competitions and contests. 

The contest season starts off with the Scholastic Surf Series, (SSS) the Western Surfing Associations’s circuit for the high school and middle school crowd. April 30 through May 2, Oceanside Harbor will host the High School State Championships.

Shortly following high school will be the Middle School State Championships May 21 through the 22, also at Oceanside Harbor.

Currently, Shorecliffs Middle School dominates the top seven out of a roster of 43 in the Orange County Boys Shortboard division as well as the top two in the Orange County Longboard division.

The number-one spot for the Girls Shortboard and Longboard Divisions also currently belongs to two Shorecliffs Middle School groms, as well.

The National Surfing Scholarship Association has one more Southwest Conference Open is scheduled for April 23 through the 24 at Oceanside Jetty.

 Following this will be the NSSA West Coast Championships scheduled for May 18 through the 22 at the Southside of Huntington Beach Pier.

National Championships will be held June 16 through the 18 in Dana Point at Salt Creek Beach.

The Airshow as well as the Open and Explorer Championships will be held June 26 through July 3 at Huntington Beach Pier.

As far as the older crowd is concerned, the Association of Surfing Professional’s Prime Event in San Clemente, the Nike 6.0 Lowers Pro, is currently scheduled for May 3 through the 7 at Lower Trestles, holding a $250,000 prize purse.

And last, but certainly not least, is the ASP’s World Tour Hurley Pro, which is scheduled September 18 through the 24 at Lower Trestles.

The Hurley Pro will feature the top 34 surfers from across the globe competing for a $425,000 prize purse.
